Parent and Caregiver Code of Conduct

Seal Swimming's Parent and Caregiver Code of Conduct outlines expectations for all families — covering respectful communication, poolside behaviour, safety, fostering independence, and Seal's promise to every family.

A shared commitment to every swimmer's success

At Seal Swimming, we believe that a supportive and respectful partnership between families and our team is essential for every swimmer's success. This Parent and Caregiver Code of Conduct outlines our shared values and expectations to ensure a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for all. This Code must be accepted by all parents or caregivers upon registration.

Support a positive learning environment

Want to understand how our lessons are structured? Read our Swim Lesson Structure article.

  • Encourage your swimmer to do their best, have fun, and keep trying
  • Allow swim teachers to lead the lesson without interruption or coaching from the sidelines
  • Trust Seal staff to make class decisions in the best interest of safety and learning

Communicate respectfully

Have a question or concern? Contact our team and we will be happy to help.

  • Speak kindly and respectfully with all staff, swimmers, and other families
  • Bring up any questions or concerns privately with a Team Lead or supervisor — not during lessons
  • Use appropriate channels (email, phone, Swim Portal, or in-person meetings) to resolve concerns constructively

Prioritize safety

Read more about our safety standards in our Safety Protocols and Guidelines article.

  • Ensure your swimmer arrives on time, prepared, and ready to participate — see What to Expect on Your First Day for a full checklist
  • Supervise your child in the facility before and after their lesson
  • Follow all posted facility rules and staff instructions while on-site

Foster independence

Learn more about how we support different learners in our Adapting Lessons for Different Learning Styles article.

  • Give your child space to learn and grow by allowing them to participate independently whenever appropriate
  • Avoid hovering, interfering with teaching, or entering the pool deck unless invited by staff

Inappropriate behaviour

To protect the integrity and safety of our community, Seal Swimming will not tolerate:

  • Disruptive behaviour, shouting, or coaching from the deck
  • Verbal abuse, harassment, or aggressive behaviour toward staff, swimmers, or others
  • Repeated complaints or confrontations during lesson time
  • Violations of facility rules or policies

Inappropriate behaviour may result in warnings, restricted access to the facility, or dismissal from the program without refund. If you have a concern about behaviour at your location, please contact our team or speak to the Shift Lead on deck.

Our promise to you

At Seal Swimming, we promise to:

  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all families
  • Communicate with transparency, professionalism, and empathy
  • Support your swimmer's progress and help them feel confident in the water
  • Address concerns with care and respect

You can track your swimmer's progress anytime through the Swim Portal, where SplashCheck ratings and swim teacher notes are updated regularly. Learn more in our Skills Tracking and Reporting article.
