What to Expect on Your First Day
What to bring, how check-in works, the flow of the lesson, and tips for a confident start.
Before You Arrive
Registration & Waivers — Make sure you've reviewed your Welcome Email and completed all registration steps, including waivers and policies. These outline your responsibilities and help us create a safe, respectful environment for everyone. Not registered yet? Register through the Swim Portal to get started.
What to Bring — We recommend preparing a designated swim bag just for class days: swimsuit (well-fitted and comfortable); towel; goggles (especially helpful for beginners or nervous swimmers); swim cap or hair tie (required for long hair); reusable swim diaper (required for swimmers not yet potty trained); kickboard, pull buoy, fins (for Squad or Training swimmers only); water bottle. Looking for gear? Check the links in your Welcome Email for recommended products.
Arrival at the Pool
Check-In Process — Since we operate from rented or shared pools, there may not be a permanent front desk. Look for Seal Swimming signage and our reception team when you arrive — they'll guide you through check-in and introduce your swim teacher. Visit our Locations page to find directions, parking info, and facility-specific details for your pool.
Orientation — You'll receive a brief tour of the facility, including changing rooms and key safety info. Every location is unique, and our staff will walk you through pool-specific rules to ensure a smooth first experience.
During the Lesson
Lesson Structure — Our classes follow a consistent format: Welcome & Warm-Up (3–5 mins); Stroke Development — core skill-building; Skill Focus / Contrasting Activity; Exit Game or Cool Down (3–5 mins). Lessons are designed to be fun, goal-focused, and developmentally appropriate for each level.
Small Class Sizes, Big Support — Our swim teachers provide individual attention using visual cues, games, and floatation tools to support every swimmer's learning style. Shift Leads supervise lessons and are available to support swimmers and families.
Safety First — All swim teachers are certified, trained, and focused on swimmer well-being. Swimmers are encouraged to learn their teacher's name and ask for help at any time during class.
After the Lesson
Feedback & Check-Out — Lessons wrap up with a cool down and quick feedback from your swim teacher. If you have questions that require more time, our Shift Leads are available to help between classes. You can also track your swimmer's progress anytime in the Swim Portal — look for SplashCheck ratings and swim teacher notes after each class.
Dry Off & Change — Use the designated changing spaces and follow any posted facility guidelines. Please be respectful of others and keep belongings organized — remember to do a quick check before leaving.
Registering for the Next Session — You can register for your next session via the Swim Portal or ask our reception team for help. Regular attendance helps build skills faster, so we recommend maintaining a consistent schedule when possible.
Extra Tips for a Great First Day
Arrive early: give yourself 10–15 minutes to get checked in and settled. Stay hydrated: bring a water bottle — no glass containers please. Communicate goals: let your teacher know if you have any swim goals, nervousness, or special needs. Ask questions: we're here to support you.
