Safety Protocols and Guidelines
An overview of Seal Swimming's safety protocols and guidelines — covering swim teacher qualifications, pool supervision, parent responsibilities, health and hygiene policies, and our commitment to inclusion for every swimmer.
How We Keep Your Swimmer Safe at Seal
At Seal Swimming, safety is at the heart of everything we do. From our pool deck supervision to our swim teacher training and facility policies, we are committed to providing a learning environment that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming for every swimmer and their family. This guide outlines our key safety protocols and what you can expect when participating in our programs.
Supervision and Swim Teacher Qualifications
- Certified Swim Teachers — All Seal Swimming teachers hold nationally recognised swim teaching and lifeguarding certifications.
- Ongoing Training — Our team receives regular training in child protection, inclusive teaching practices, and emergency response.
- Deck Supervisors — Every lesson block is overseen by a Shift Lead who is responsible for class management and safety oversight.
In and Around the Pool
- Small Class Sizes — We maintain low teacher-to-swimmer ratios to ensure every child is seen, supported, and safe.
- Direct Supervision — Children are never left unsupervised. Our team ensures swimmers are under watch from the moment they arrive on deck until they leave the water.
- Pool Rules — All swimmers are taught and expected to follow basic pool safety, including walking on deck, safe entries and exits, and no rough play.
- Emergency Protocols — Our staff are trained in CPR, first aid, and emergency evacuation procedures specific to each location.
Parent and Caregiver Responsibilities
- Supervision Before and After Class — Parents and caregivers are responsible for supervising swimmers outside of class time, including in the changerooms and viewing areas.
- Timely Arrival — Please arrive 10–15 minutes before class to allow time for check-in and preparation.
- Respect Facility Guidelines — Follow signage, staff instructions, and location-specific rules at all times.
Health and Hygiene
- Clean Facilities — We work closely with our host pools to maintain clean, well-maintained changerooms and pool areas.
- Swim Diapers — All swimmers under 3 years old or not fully toilet trained must wear a snug-fitting reusable swim diaper.
- Illness Policy — If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home and report the absence through the Swim Portal. See our Make-Up Lesson Policy for eligibility.
Inclusion and Safety for All
Seal Swimming is a zero-tolerance environment for bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. We are proud to welcome swimmers of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and adaptable for swimmers with special needs, neurodiverse learners, and those learning at a different pace.
Have a Concern?
If you ever feel unsafe, witness a concern, or have a question about our safety practices, please let us know right away. You can speak with a Shift Lead on site or contact us directly — we take every concern seriously.
Safe Swimmers Are Confident Swimmers
Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe, positive experience for every swimmer. At Seal Swimming, we believe that safety isn't just a priority — it's a shared responsibility.
