Arriving Late and Missed Classes
What to do if you arrive late or miss a swim class at Seal Swimming — including how to notify staff, make-up lesson eligibility, attendance policies, and tips for staying on track.
Arriving late to class
Seal Swimming emphasizes punctuality to ensure a productive and safe learning environment. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may cause students to arrive late.
What to do if you are running late:
- Notify us in advance — Call or email us as soon as you realize you will be late.
- Check in upon arrival — When you arrive at the facility, check in with the door greeter or the swim teacher to notify them of your presence.
- Follow safety procedures — If the class has already started, ensure the swim teacher is aware of your entry into the pool area. This is important for safety reasons.
- Participate quietly — Join the class as smoothly as possible, following the swim teacher's instructions, and avoid disrupting the flow of the session.
- Catch up after class — If you missed important instructions, ask the swim teacher after class to ensure you understand what was covered.
Repeated tardiness — For students who repeatedly miss significant portions of the class, it could affect their progression or readiness for more advanced levels. If punctuality is a recurring challenge, please contact us so we can help find a class time that works better for your schedule.
Missed classes
We understand that situations like illness, emergencies, or schedule conflicts may cause you to miss a class. Missing a class or two will not have a negative impact on your child's swim journey.
What to do when you miss a class:
- Notify us in advance (when possible) — If you know ahead of time that you will miss a class, contact Seal Swimming as early as possible. This allows us to plan ahead and keep track of attendance.
- Request a make-up lesson — Make-up lessons are offered as a courtesy and subject to availability. To be eligible, report the absence through the Swim Portal at least 8 hours before the scheduled class. See our Make-Up Lesson Policy for full details and limits.
- Review missed material — Ask the swim teacher or a fellow swimmer about the key skills and exercises covered in the missed session.
- Attend the next class prepared — Let the swim teacher know you missed the last session so they can help you catch up if needed.
Important notes
- No refunds for missed classes: credits, refunds, or prorated fees are not provided for missed lessons. Make-up lessons are available as a courtesy — see our Make-Up Lesson Policy for eligibility.
- Medical absences: if you have a medical condition that causes frequent absences, please provide a doctor's note and discuss any needed accommodations with our administration team.
Tips for managing attendance
- Plan ahead — Review your personal schedule before registering to ensure you can commit to the class dates and times. Browse available sessions in the Swim Portal.
- Stay communicative — If you experience issues with attendance, reach out early. Our team can help find solutions that work for you.
- Maintain a positive attitude — If you miss a class or arrive late, focus on catching up and making the most of future lessons.
