What to Wear for Swimming Lessons at Seal
At Seal Swimming, the right swimwear helps create a safe, comfortable, and successful learning experience. This guide outlines what swimmers of all ages should wear to class, along with some helpful tips for parents and caregivers.
Required Swimwear for All Swimmers
Properly Fitted Swimsuit — One-piece or two-piece athletic-style suits are acceptable. Swimsuits should be secure and allow freedom of movement — no loose or overly baggy clothing. Rash guards and swim shirts are fine, but should be snug-fitting and made for swimming.
Swim Cap — Recommended for all swimmers; required for shoulder-length or longer hair. Swim caps keep hair out of the face, reduce drag, and help maintain cleanliness in the pool. Silicone or latex caps are best — cloth caps are not recommended.
Goggles — Strongly recommended for most levels. Goggles help swimmers see clearly underwater and prevent eye irritation. Choose a pair that fits snugly without leaking — test them at home before your first class. Goggles are optional for beginner levels but encouraged as swimmers advance.
For Young Swimmers (Ages 0–3 or Not Fully Toilet Trained)
Swim Diapers (Required) — Swimmers who are not yet toilet trained must wear a snug-fitting reusable swim diaper. Disposable swim diapers can be worn underneath, but a reusable cover is still required. Please check diapers before class and come prepared with a backup. This applies to our Baby Seal and Seal Pups programs.
Footwear & Towels
Flip flops or indoor shoes are encouraged for walking on the pool deck. Bring a clean, dry towel for after class — for young swimmers, a hooded towel or robe works well.
What Not to Wear
To ensure safety and hygiene, please avoid: cotton clothing (e.g., t-shirts, shorts); underwear in place of or underneath swimwear; baggy or oversized swim trunks; jewellery or accessories; non-swim diapers.
Need Gear?
Seal Swimming offers a selection of swim caps and goggles on-site (where available). We're happy to recommend trusted local or online retailers if you need help choosing the right items. Speak to our reception team at your nearest location for recommendations.
Label Everything
Please label your swimmer's gear with their name — especially swim caps, goggles, and towels. It helps us return lost items more easily.
Not sure if your swimmer's gear meets the guidelines? Contact us or speak to our team at your next class. For more first-day tips, see What to Expect on Your First Day.
