The Teens and Adults framework includes three stages which are designed to help teens and adults reach their swimming goals. Teachers work with teens and adults individually to determine their goals in the water and design classes to be relevant to them. In order to complete the first Teen and Adult level, swimmers should be able to complete a 50 metre swim with no rest and display basic comfort in deep water. In order to complete the second level swimmers will be able to perform 100 metres of freestyle in under two minutes.

Adult 1

60 Min, Ratio 6 : 1

This stage is designed for individuals with no swimming experience, nervous swimmers, or those who have had negative experiences affecting their swimming pathway. Participants will learn to enter and exit the water safely, move through the water, and control their breathing.

Key Skills

  • Enter and exit the water safely
  • Change directions in the water comfortably
  • Submersion displaying comfort in the water
  • Safely perform ten consecutive sinkdowns
  • Perform front and back float and recovery
  • Perform sculling to gain a Feel for the Water
  • Kick for 10 Metres using streamlined freestyle kick.

60 Min, Ratio 6 : 1

This stage is for individuals who have completed the Adult 1 level or can swim 50 metres or more and want to improve their freestyle technique and endurance for swimming events or overall fitness. Participants will build on their existing skills to swim 100 metres of freestyle continuously and learn lane etiquette.

  • Perform a dive into deep water
  • Perform Dolphin kick for 10 Metres
  • Freestyle kick for 50 Metres with a Kickboard
  • Sculling head first for 15m on back
  • Demonstrate understanding of lane etiquette
  • Demonstrate bilateral breathing
  • Swim 100 Metres of Freestyle with optional turns
  • Open Water Safety Standard 2 (in pool)

Adult 3

60 Min, Ratio 6 per Lane

This stage is designed for adults who are ready to enhance their swimming skills and fitness levels through structured workouts. Participants will focus on improving endurance, stroke technique, and overall swimming fitness to participate in fitness squads.

  • Perform a dive start into deep water
  • Swim 100 Metres of Backstroke
  • Perform 100 Metres of Freestyle with Flip Turns
  • Perform 50 Metres Breaststroke
  • Participate in interval training sets for Freestyle
  • Tread water for 2 Minutes
  • Swim 400 Metres of Freestyle in 12 Minutes
  • Open Water Safety Standard 2 (in pool)
