What the lesson feels like

  1. A parent holds their baby securely during a Seal Swimming class.

    01

Before class ~ The baby harbour.

You're in the water with your baby. The swim teacher shows you the holds that keep them warm, supported and calm.

  2. A swim teacher in the water leads a small group of children through a lesson.

    02

In class ~ Ready, steady, go.

Trickle, pour, splash. Songs and cues that make getting wet a game, so submersion is never a surprise.

  3. A lifeguard kneels at the shallow end beside a swimmer, reaching assist and buoy within reach.

    03

After class ~ What you learned.

Your SplashCheck lists what your baby tried this week and how to practise it in the bath.

Common questions

Can we start before my baby has her shots?

We recommend waiting until your baby has received their first round of vaccinations before joining Baby Seal classes. Most babies are ready to start around 2 months, after their first immunisations.

Consult your healthcare provider before registering if you have concerns.

How many babies will be in the class?

Baby Seal classes are kept intentionally small — typically 4 to 6 parent/baby pairs per class.

Can my baby swim if they’re not well?

Please do not bring your baby to class if they are unwell. If your baby has a fever, cold, ear infection, diarrhoea, or any contagious condition, please keep them home and contact us to discuss your options.

When should I feed my baby before swimming?

We recommend feeding your baby at least 30 to 60 minutes before their lesson to reduce the risk of discomfort or spit-up in the water. Avoid feeding immediately before class, but don’t let your baby arrive hungry.
